Guide to developing and implementing a health management plan

To improve the coordination of health issues in the NSW mining and extractives industries the NSW Mine Safety Advisory Council (MSAC) endorsed a guide to help sites develop a health management plan.

The guide aims to help the industry manage occupational health risks in the same systematic way they address safety risks. It will also help mines and quarries to better understand their existing legislative obligations in managing occupational health risks. Each section of the guide considers a specific aspect of the plan and provides an overview, information on the actions required, other desirable actions and a list of resources.

Literature review of health issues

The Wran Mine Safety Review identified, among other things, the relative lack of information on, and prevention activity in relation to, work-related disease affecting NSW miners. The literature review of health issues is intended as an initial step towards addressing this lack by providing literature-based information on disease problems known to be, or likely to be, affecting NSW miners and advice regarding priorities for further work in this area.
