The Resources Regulator has responded to an incident at Cadia mine near Orange.

A section of the North Tailing Dam has slumped and as a result released tailings into the South Tailings Dam. It is understood that the release has been contained by the South Tailings Dam.

A range of technical specialists are currently onsite assessing the situation.

Inspectors from the Resources Regulator are also onsite monitoring the situation and working closely with other agencies, including NSW State Emergency Service, NSW Police and the Dam Safety Committee.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.30pm on 9 March 2018.
