24th October 2017

The Resources Regulator has issued a prohibition notice to Glencore’s Integra coal mine, preventing all workers from entering the site’s underground workings - with the exception of those undertaking safety-related activities.

The notice follows an incident on 21 October 2017, where methane gas levels reached above per cent after rising water affected the mine's ventilation system. The mine immediately withdrew workers in accordance with its Trigger Action Plan.

The notice was lifted on 23 October following an investigation by the mine including a detailed risk assessment and the implementation of additional risk controls.

The Resources Regulator has continued to monitor the situation and is satisfied that appropriate actions have been taken to ensure workers at the mine are not exposed to risk.
