Independent Chair of the Advisory Body for Strategic Release

The NSW Government is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified people to be the independent Chair of the Advisory Body for Strategic Release.

The Advisory Body will provide important strategic and operational advice to the Minister for Resources, Energy and Utilities, and Arts regarding the implementation of the Strategic Release Framework for Coal and Petroleum Exploration, which will determine where, when and how coal and petroleum resources are to be released for exploration to suitably qualified companies.

The Chair will lead an interagency Advisory Body which will comprise senior executives from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, NSW Department of Industry, NSW Treasury and the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.

To be successful, the Chair will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • substantial experience and ability to work across and understand different stakeholder interests from government, community, and industry.
  • extensive experience in convening meetings and facilitating consensus between stakeholder groups with diverse perspectives .
  • ability to understand the technical issues relating to resource assessment , land use management and/or environmental and social issues related to coal and/or petroleum exploration and production.

Previous professional experience in resources, earth or social sciences or other related industries would be beneficial, but not required.

Potential candidates should not have met any of the following criteria in the last two years:

  • held local, state or federal Government elected positions
  • donated or provided fee-for-service assistance to resources, environment or lobbying groups
  • been an employee of either a resources, environment or lobby group
  • been involved in a legal dispute associated with land-use conflict or
  • had any immediate family member or spouse involved in any of the above

Applicants will also be asked to declare property interests and current shareholdings.
