The Solar Bonus Scheme (the Scheme) has been successful in achieving its aim to encourage the uptake of renewable energy in NSW. Over 146,000 households and small businesses have installed small-scale renewable energy generators under the Scheme.
Since the Scheme closed to new applicants, a further 174,000 households and small businesses have installed systems without a subsidised feed-in tariff.
In accordance with the original intention of the Parliament and set out in the Section 15A of the Electricity Supply Act 1995, the Scheme will end on 31 December 2016.
Eligible Scheme customers will continue to receive payments under the Scheme until this date.
How this affects Scheme customers
Eligible Scheme customers will continue to receive payments under the Scheme until the end of the year, after which they can access the same market offers for unsubsidised feed-in tariffs that are available to all other solar customers.
Now is a good time for you to investigate your metering and other product options to make sure you get the most out of your renewable energy system when the Scheme ends, and to look around to see what competing retailers have to offer.
Depending on the offer you choose, you may need to change meters before the Scheme closes.
