A fast-growing new resource to create electricity is being derived from renewable energy sources solar, hydroelectric, wind and biomass. Input from these emerging alternatives is being constantly evaluated by the NSW Government. Continuing research will make them even more significant electricity producers in future years as new technology expands.

How is electricity distributed in NSW?

TransGrid manages the high voltage transmission power lines and towers, cables and substations, while three electricity distributors, Essential Energy, Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, deliver the electricity to consumers in their network regions.

Reliability

NSW can proudly boast that its electricity supply is among the most reliable and affordable in the world. NSW's reliability rate is nearly the best in the world at 99.97%, with expectations of it rising to 99.98% by 2016.

Renewable energy

The NSW Government is well aware of the ongoing potential of renewable products to create energy and has a comprehensive guide inviting investors to be involved with new explorations and the search for new resources. The NSW Government plans for 20% of electricity used in NSW to come from renewable energy sources by 2020.
